Max Florestano, Treasury Management & Fraud Manager, offers a high-level overview of the AT&T data breach, including what happened, what to watch out for, and how to protect yourself from similar incidents in the future.
Here are five things you should know about the data breach:
- This breach was caused by an external actor, and information at NBC remains safe and secure.
- Blocked transactions are a sign that the system is working as intended.
- Compromised information includes that of former customers, so even if you haven’t used AT&T in a while, your data may still be at risk.
- As a best practice, regularly monitor your account activity and credit report for any suspicious activity.
- If you’re unsure about your security, update your passwords, PINs, and passcodes. While the hackers may have your old information, they won’t have your new information.
